A client of mine had a crisis last Saturday- her daughter in law had just given birth and she wanted to buy her some chocolates. The aisles were full of Christmas chocolates but a Christmas selection stocking wasn’t really what she had in mind for someone who had had a baby in mid October. Apparently though there wasn’t much else to choose from. After all its past the August bank holiday so what else should we be buying for except stuff for Christmas?
So it’s that time of year again when everyone is obsessed with lists and gets exhausted with having so much to do.
Wouldn’t it be lovely to look forward to all the special things about Christmas and not to have any of the stress?
My own top tips on how to enjoy the festive season are:
1) To write a wish list of how you would like things to be- who do you want to see/ buy presents for/ send cards to /cook for?
2) If you are really being honest what is important to you about Christmas? Is it connecting with friends and family/ seeing other people happy/ the religious aspects/the glitz and glamour/ the food/ having a break?
3) What do you do only because you feel you ought to or because it’s expected of you?
4) Imagine if you were to be really brave and started to concentrate on your wish list and what is really important to you this year what would you do differently and what would be the positive ( and sparkly! ) results?
5) Stop telling yourself “I can’t..” or “I’ve got to.." Try something less stressful this year. Enjoy yourself and see how that can make a happier festive season for every one.
